Salvacion Lim Higgins Is Now A Philippine National Artist

The renowned couturier and founder of Slim’s Fashion & Arts School is one of eight National Artists proclaimed in 2022.

Iconic Philippine couturier Salvacion Lim Higgins has been proclaimed a National Artist for fashion design through an annoucement issued by Malacañang on Friday, June 10.

Higgins is one of eight National Artists named in 2022. The Order of National Artists is the highest national recognition conferred upon Filipinos who have made distinct contributions to the development and promotion of Philippine arts and culture.

Born in 1920, Salvacion Lim Higgins (better known by the acronym of her name, Slim) challenged the parameters of Philippine fashion, boldly reimagining classic silhouettes and mastering the art of clothing construction. Her legacy continues through the succeeding generations of designers trained at the Slim’s Fashion & Arts School, which she established in 1960.
