MaArte at The Pen Returns: Everything You Need to Know

Here's every exciting highlight—including the complete list of participants—of this year's MaArte at the Pen fair happening from August 19 to 21

MaArte at The Pen, an elegant fundraising bazaar that benefits the Museum Foundation of the Philippines and celebrates the Filipino creative soul, returns with an extensive selection of pieces that promote our incredible local craftsmanship.

"The original MaArte was focused on jewellery and textile," recalls MaArte co-organiser Dindin Araneta. Its humble beginnings can be traced back to the complementary event to HABI, the second ASEAN Traditional Textiles Symposium, a four-day international conference held in Manila. The bazaar was then rebranded as MaArte at The Pen in 2017 when it found a home in The Peninsula Manila.

As we emerge into the new normal, MaArte will recognise contemporary Philippine design in fashion, furniture, and accessories apart from traditional Filipino craft and design.

Supported by major sponsors Ayala Land Premier and BPI, everything and anything Filipino will be at the forefront of this year's MaArte at The Pen event.

SLIM at The Lobby

A special exhibit on National Artist for Design Salvacion Lim Higgins—renowned as SLim—was curated by his son, Mark Lewis Higgins, a painter and the director of SLim's Fashion & Arts School. The exhibition will be on view at The Lobby from August 15 to 27, 2022.

A vignette of ensembles featuring native influences like cutwork embroidery and raffia trimming will be displayed. These include nine dresses from 1952 to the early 1980s which have been loaned from the archives of SLim's Fashion & Arts School.
